Abstract: The invention provides a sewing machine which can automatically change pressing force applied to cloth by a presser foot corresponding to a cloth feed amount, and a method of controlling the same. Thesewing machine comprises cloth feeding teeth, a cloth feeding motor, a presser foot and a presser foot motor. The cloth feeding motor swings reciprocatingly under the drive of the cloth feeding motor. The cloth feeding teeth make a cloth feeding amount, namely a movement amount generated by making cloth move in the back-forth direction, change corresponding to the drive of the cloth feeding motor. The presser foot comes into contact with the cloth from the upper side. The pressing force applied to the cloth by the presser foot changes corresponding to the drive of the presser foot motor. A CPU acquires sewing information which stores the cloth feeding amount and the pressing force in a manner of making the cloth feeding amount and the pressing force correspond to needle serial numbers. The CPU controls the drive of a main motor and the cloth feeding motor based on the acquired sewing information and thus executes sewing. The CPU executes sewing based on the cloth feeding amount and the pressing force shown by the sewing information. Thus, the sewing machine changes the pressing force corresponding to the cloth feeding amount of the sewing information.
