Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a pedestrian pushed onto a hood from falling, while hindering unnecessary inflation of an airbag in the event of collision with the pedestrian.SOLUTION: In the event that a vehicle 12 collides with a pedestrian from front, the pedestrian may be pushed onto a hood 14, moved to either one of ends 15 of the hood 14 in a vehicle width direction, and made highly likely to fall from the surface of the hood 14. In such a situation, using a pedestrian behavior detection camera 34, a pedestrian protection airbag device 10 detects the side to which the pedestrian has moved and, on the basis of the result of the detection, the device can expand and inflate a side front part 28 of a pedestrian protection airbag 16 corresponding to the side to which the pedestrian has moved.
