Abstract: A cushioning packing spiral is formed from a long strip of material having a predetermined width and continuously coiled using a spiral-forming machine and cut into different lengths using a rear-mounted cutting mechanism. The cushioning packing spiral has a spiral pitch to provide desired axial tensile elasticity and radial height, so that a plurality of the cushioning packing spirals may be randomly positioned in a packing container to form a cushioning layer, which provides not only changeful decorating effects, but also good air permeability and buffering effect in the packing container. A cushioning packing spiral is formed from a long strip of material having a predetermined width and continuously coiled using a spiral-forming machine and cut into different lengths using a rear-mounted cutting mechanism. Abstract: Sound absorbing/sound blocking products, including trim products formed from a porous fibrous layer backed by a sound absorbing layer and a sound blocking layer for use within vehicles, and methods of making same, are provided. A porous fibrous layer structure including a fibrous layer backing is heated to achieve a fluid or semi-fluid state and then subjected to vacuum to draw air through the fibrous layer backing to create a porous structure. A layer of sound absorbing and a layer of sound blocking material may be applied to the porous fibrous layer backing to provide improved acoustic properties. An underlayment may further be included to provide selected areas of increased thickness and provide tailoring of sound attenuation. Sound absorbing/sound blocking products, including trim products formed from a porous fibrous layer backed by a sound absorbing layer and a sound blocking layer for use within vehicles, and methods of making same, are provided. Abstract: Both ceramic and intermetallic materials as a rule have a very small elongation at break of distinctly less than 0.3% and therefore a break behaviour with low damage tolerance. In order to increase the damage tolerance, it is important to increase the elongation at break to at least 0.3% or more. This can be achieved by introducing, for example, fibres consisting of carbon or ceramic or metal fibres into the matrix. It is important in this respect for the distribution of the fibres in the matrix to be homogeneous and/or defined. It is of advantage and therefore as a rule desirable for the fibres for reinforcing a material or component to be oriented in a defined direction which is adapted to the main stress. Therefore, according to the invention, a fibre-ceramic composite is proposed which consists of a ceramic matrix with a pore proportion of 0% to 75% and a fibre proportion of 5% by volume to 30% by volume, wherein the distribution of the fibres in the matrix is homogeneous and/or defined, and their quantity and orientation are optimised in relation to the material load. Both ceramic and intermetallic materials as a rule have a very small elongation at break of distinctly less than 0.3% and therefore a break behaviour with low damage tolerance. In order to increase the damage tolerance, it is important to increase the elongation at break to at ...more ...less

Abstract: A composite laminated print and frame and method of fabrication is described. A canvas sheet is secured on a flat outer contour surface of a circumferential hollow frame member such that the canvas sheet is accessible from behind the frame. A printed image sheet is bonded on a clear plastic film sheet with an image of the sheet facing the clear plastic film sheet. The plastic film sheet has a marginal extension portion all about the image sheet. The marginal extension portion extends over a circumferential outer side wall of the frame member and is held taunt by fasteners to secure same to the frame member whereby the image sheet, adhered to the plastic film sheet, is held taunt over the canvas sheet with the image facing outwardly. Preferably, the plastic film sheet is an embossed plastic film sheet having a visible pattern embossment thereon whereby the image appears to have been painted on the canvas which is secured to the frame under the image sheet bonded to the outer plastic film sheet and visible and touchable from the rear of the frame. A composite laminated print and frame and method of fabrication is described. Abstract: The present invention provides for assemblies comprising metal matrix composite bars where the bars only intermittently have mutual contact. Minimally two bars of metal matrix composite are joined, for example, by lap joints, or by the use of incorporated tabs and slots or over-lapping slots, at areas of mutual contact to form the assemblies. The metal matrix composite assemblies of the present invention may be readily assembled to provide structures, supports, or sub-assemblies, and the like, that may exhibit high strength and stiffness coupled with relatively low mass. Additionally, such assemblies may withstand exposure to elevated temperatures higher than can be tolerated by polymeric composites. Such assemblies are expected to be particularly suitable for lightweight, stiff support structures for space booms, satellite structures, mirror backings, solar panel supports, wall reinforcement, and the like. The present invention provides for assemblies comprising metal matrix composite bars where the bars only intermittently have mutual contact.
