Abstract: The hinge (19) for the spectacle side frames is attached to a shaped fitting (21). It has a clip fastening in a recess (9) in the main frame. Abstract: A semiconductor laser control apparatus comprises a semiconductor laser (2), a semiconductor laser control circuit (3), a drive current measuring unit (20), a detection unit (22), a warning unit (23), and a memory unit (24). The memory unit (24) stores at least one initial drive current values (Iref) and corresponding temperatures (Tref). The detection unit (22) compares an actual drive current value (Iop, If) measured by the drive current measuring unit (20) with the initial drive current value (Iref) corresponding to an actual temperature (T). The warning unit (23) generates an alarm of a prediction of the expiration of service life of the semiconductor laser (2), when the actual drive current value (Iop, If) exceeds the corresponding initial drive current value (Iref) as much as a specified percentage. Consequently, the near expiration of the service life of the semiconductor laser (2) can be confirmed and therefore render the operational effects such as replacement of the semiconductor laser without causing any hindrance to the operation. Abstract: A small portable computing device (110), such as a personal digital assistant (PDA), is provided with a paging capability to assist the user of the PDA in receiving and responding to pages. One feature is the automated look-up of a telephone number received as a paged message to provide the user of the PDA with the name of the sender of the page, the telephone number of the sender and a telephone icon which, when selected by the user, will cause the PDA to dial the telephone number identified by the paging message. The device is also capable of receiving messages in a predetermined format which identifies the name of the caller as well as an alphanumeric message. The paging mechanism is also used to notify the user of electronic mail which has arrived into the user's mailbox located on an electronic mail system. In addition, when the device is in a powered down state, the pager card, upon receipt of a paging message that electronic mail has been sent to the user, wakes up the powered down computing device.
